FAQ’s – Pottery Painting
How does it work?
When you visit us for pottery painting you will be able to choose your pottery (bisque) from our shelves and use our wide range of paints to create your own designs. Once you have finished, we take it away to be glazed and fired in our kiln. Our kiln reaches just over 1000 degrees to ensure all pottery is sealed, glossy and waterproof.
How do I book a pottery painting session?
This can be booked on our website, where you will pay a studio fee. When you book online, it makes everything much easier for our studio to keep bookings organised and all contact details in one place. You will also get an automatic reminder one day before your booking.
How long are sessions?
2 hours. At weekends we have to be quite strict with these times as we are normally fully booked, but if you visit us during the week, we are much more relaxed and you can stay longer.
Is the studio fee deducted from the pottery I choose?
No, our studio fee is separate to the pottery. This fee covers the glazing, paints and firing costs. However, you can paint as many pieces as you want with one studio fee.
What is your cancellation policy?
The studio fee is refundable only if given 24 hour’s notice. You can do this by email or by calling our studio. However, if you need to cancel at short notice, we may be able to reschedule your booking. Please email us info@pottery-studio.co.uk
How long do I have to collect my pottery?
We keep pottery for 4 weeks after we have contacted you to let you know it's ready. If pottery is not collected after 4 weeks, it will be disposed of. This is sad but we need our shelf space as we are a busy studio. We also offer a postage service for an extra fee.
Is the pottery food safe?
Yes, once it has been glazed and fired, they can be used for food or drink.
Is the pottery microwave and dishwasher safe?
It’s not microwave safe. It is in theory dishwasher safe, however, as your pottery is hand painted and earthenware, it may be prone to chipping, so we would advise to hand wash.
Can I bring my own pottery to paint and fire at your studio.
No, sorry!
How long does it take to get my pottery back?
It can take up to 15 days, especially during school holidays. Although many times it’s sooner than this and we will contact you either by email or phone, or both to come and collect. Always check your voicemail and spam folder if you think you haven’t heard from us within that time frame.
Can I get my pottery sooner?
Yes, we offer a fast-track option. This costs £15 per two items. This option can take 3-5 days depending on our firing schedule.
What happens if my pottery is damaged?
This hardly ever happens, but pottery and firing can be unpredictable. If there is any damage caused during the firing process we will refund you for the item or schedule you in to paint the same item again at a date of your choice.
Can you deliver my pottery?
Yes, we send pottery using Royal Mail and the cost is £7.50. Please consider this if you think you won’t have time to collect.
Is the studio wheelchair friendly?
Yes! Our studio is on the second floor but there is an elevator. Our door is wide enough for wheelchairs and we have accessible toilets on the same floor.
Do you have baby changing facilities?
No, sorry! But the WC area is large enough if you have your own changing mat.
Do you have highchairs?
No, sorry!
Can I bring my dog along?
Yes! As long as they remain calm, they are more than welcome.
Do you sell food and drink?
No, sorry, however, we are surrounded by many options for food and drink, within the Design District, Canteen or o2. You are spoilt for choice!
Can I bring my own drink/food?
You are more than welcome to bring your own drinks or snacks. Guests are advised if bringing alcohol, to drink responsibly as we have families with young children sometimes painting with us. If you are bringing food, please be aware that grease that is transferred onto pottery can affect the finish. Please contact us to find out more. info@pottery-studio.co.uk
