Why pottery is what we need right now

Why pottery is what we need right now

As the owner of a pottery studio I am continuously inspired by how much people respond to creating something, even if they think they aren’t creative - something we hear a lot! The more finished pieces we see going through the process and your reaction when you collect them, the more I am convinced that the art of pottery ignites something deep within us, sometimes left behind in our childhood.

Touching clay is tactile. It’s beautiful and messy and pottery is having a serious moment. What used to be seen as a niche hobby is now front and centre in a cultural shift toward touching base with our childhood, when life was more simple. In a world that is more and more troubling, it’s no wonder that we yearn for simpler times. There’s a meme featuring Snoopy and Charlie Brown I often see on social media  that reads “What do you miss? I miss the way I viewed the world before I knew too much”. I honestly feel this is the collective feeling of many people right now and pottery can be a great friend in this noisy world of technology, work deadlines, doomscrolling and generally overthinking. When you take part in a pottery class, you are literally touching earth and remembering what is important - slowing down and saying hey to that kid inside you.

Of course Pottery Studio LDN is not just about making pots with clay - you can also come along and paint on ready to paint pottery with lots of shapes, both practical and decorative. This process offers such a great easy entry experience if the prospect of sitting at a pottery wheel feels too daunting. Both experiences are great for beginners, but one or the other may feel like it’s a better fit for you - which is why I wanted to create a studio that specialises in both making and painting. Something not many studios do, but something we strive to make accessible and with equal importance, no matter what your experience.

Evening pottery painting sessions have just gone live!

As the cosy nights set in, we have just released our pottery painting evenings. Each Wednesday, 6-8pm we are staying open late so you can pop over after work.  More and more people are swapping loud nights out for cozy evenings in the studio, and honestly, who can blame them? Pottery studios are the new wine bars. Think: chill playlists, BYOB nights, and good conversation while you paint a mug that’ll become part of your new morning ritual.

It’s social without the small talk. You’re connecting through the act of making, not just talking. It feels good to make something and at the end of the night, you won’t have a tab at the bar, you’ll have a bowl, a vase, or a quirky little blob that you’re weirdly proud of. Perfect for social gatherings, solo dates, or even first dates . . . Come along!

Fancy taking a pottery wheel class?

It’s messy, it’s fun and you will leave learning how to make your own little pot that we will glaze and fire on your behalf and we know you will love it! So whether you want to book for yourself, for a friend or purchase a voucher for a loved one, this is the perfect way to take 2 hours out of the daily grind and make something with clay!

Hopefully see you soon, but if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Our email is info@pottery-studio.co.uk
