About this experience

Beginner/intermediate

During this workshop you will learn and use 2 hand-building techniques: pinching and coiling. We will demonstrate both technique and encourage you to use a blend of both approaches to create your unique vase.

The pinching technique is the OG of the pottery techniques, it's a fantastic way to get to know clay and how it behaves. The pinching technique is a fundamental hand-building method where a ball of clay is shaped into a pot by repeatedly pinching and turning the clay between fingers and thumbs. This process thins the clay walls and expands the opening, allowing for the creation of various forms, primarily bowls and cups.Regardless of the shape you choose for your vase, you will be able to start the base with the pinching technique. The coiling technique involves building your vessel by stacking and blending together coils of clay. It allows to build audatious shapes of various sizes.

Come and enjoy a very mindful moment in our beautiful studio and create your own ceramic treasure!

Good to know:

-short nails are much easier to work with but long pretty nails are not impossible to work around!

-Jewellery off!

-don’t come in your Sunday best, when we play with clay we get mucky!

-There are never more than 8 students in each class, this allows our teachers to offer excellent individualised support.

-As it is the case in most studios, whilst the rest of your piece will be glazed by us after the first firing, the base of your piece will remain bisque. This means it won’t be covered by glaze.

-It takes about a month for your piece to come back to you. It needs to be fired twice and glazed before you can take it home!
