Which throwing class is right for me?
Our beginners and improvers class is the place to be at the start of your throwing journey.
We would highly recommend you complete at least two or three beginners and improvers courses before you start thinking about joining the intermediate class.
Throwing requires a LOT of practise and it is really important to dedicate time to build those core skills before moving on to new learning and challenges.
Am I ready for the intermediate class?
If you are wondering if you are ready for the intermediate class, speak to your teacher who will advise you, and if you are not currently taking one of our classes, please speak to us so we can ensure you sign up to the right class.
____________________________________________
This 6 week course is suitable for intermediate students. We advise that students who are joining feel comfortable centering 1kg of clay and pulling walls evenly.
In our intermediate class you will be working with more clay, focusing on refining process, thinner walls and base, collaring in and larger vessels. You will be focusing on more challenging projects such as closed shapes, candle sticks, bottles...
What you will have the opportunity to learn or improve on:
- Throwing with more clay
- Closed shapes
- Bottles
- Lidded vessels
- Surface decoration
What's included:
- We will provide all materials throughout the course. All of our students use our studio white or buff stoneware clay, and have access to a full range of tools and glazes.
- The glazing and firing of up to 6 pieces (extra pots are charged at £5 per small pot and £10 for bigger pots).
- Up to 3 hours Independent studio time (untaught), to practice your new skills on a day and time that suits you. These sessions can be booked after your course with your own unique code.
Good to know!
-Please bring your own apron and tea towel or small cloth to each lesson.
-Short nails are much easier to work with as long nails can make it challenging to handle clay.
-Jewellery and watches off!
-Don’t come in your Sunday best, working with clay can be vey messy!
-As it is the case in most studios, whilst the rest of your piece will be glazed by us after the first firing, the base of your piece will remain bisque. This means it won’t be covered by glaze.
-It takes up to 6 weeks for your glazed ceramics to be ready to collect. They need to be fired twice and glazed before you can take them home!
Please read through our FAQs for our most asked questions. Read our T&Cs berfore booking.
Now for the boring but important part. . .
All classes are refundable up until 28 days prior to the start of the course. After this we may be able to reschedule your course. PLEASE NOTE: From 14 days prior, your course is non-refundable. We are a small pottery studio and our courses run at capacity. Teachers and materials are organised in advance for the number of booked participants.
